If you are talking about the "i" (international) version. Then the wireless should work there... assuming it is a supported country. Contracts are needed between Amazon and the phone provider.

In the Amazon description it says it works in over 100 countries and if you click the coverage map there is coverage in Australia however when i read people saying that you need two accounts and use gift vouchers i cannot quite see why i would need to go to that trouble.
According to wikipedia "On October 22, Amazon lowered the price on the international version to $259 from $279 and ceased selling new versions of the U.S.-only model"
