I always underestimate my deductions just to be on the safe side. Many years ago, the State of Virginia found an error in my return and said I owed them an additional $100.00. That made me go over my return with a fin-tooth comb. I found two more errors, sent back their original letter, thanked them for letting me know I had made a error, and showed them where not only did I not owe them $100.00, but they owed me $200.00.

They paid. I don't hear from them too much these days about my returns.
