It is easy to sign up for a US itunes account. You can then download ibooks. You just won't be able to buy any paid apps - unless you get a US address credit card or a US Itunes gift card. So you won't be able to purchase from the ibooks store, but you will be able to use the reader.

The only downside to doing this is in order to install any app updates, you have to be signed into the account (within itunes) that downloaded the app.
