About a hundred years.
Automobiles were still a toy of the very rich in 1907 and the name had not standardized, much less the slang of car. If anything was a car it was a railroad car or buggy. Likewise the university concept of a collection of colleges had yet to take hold. Granted there were many schools that we would call universities by our modern terms but in those days they were colleges.
