You're right NatCh, I'm notorious for crediting the wrong person (done it a few times), guess I'm getting forgetful in my old age... nahh, I've always been a little bad with names. Good idea though!
Perhaps one of the people doing firmware work will give my suggestion a go and we'll find this in a new revision. Better yet, since Sony has been notorious for watching and implementing home brew suggestions into its other platform (you know, the PSP), perhaps they'll see this and do something in some official capacity. I wouldn't be surprised if a revision or two down the line we don't see a clock and button allocation added to the official firmware. They're awesome ideas and all the hard work of actually implementing them are done, so I see no reason why they wouldn't aside from sheer stubborness.
