Well, personally I'd as soon buy the books separately in standard paperback size, but I suppose that's a reason.
A better reason would be to present the books in a larger format of text for older readers, but I haven't seen that.
I do remember seeing the Hitchhiker's Guide series in trade format. I'd considered buying the series, but after seeing how large they were, I opted for e-books instead.
