The reason the GUI for libprs does not work is that you cannot use it to transfer files to/from your reader as long as you have the USB driver for Connect (the software) installed. That makes it two different USB drivers for the reader and the Connect seems to take priority. If you were to uninstall Connect or just the USB driver for Connect, then you could use the GUI for Libprs500.

Yes, it does work. But it's because of the way Windows works that you cannot have both. And the reason Libprs500 is not using the USB driver from Connect is so it can be kept cross platform compatible and also work on Linux and OS X where there is no Connect.

As for crap, if command line programs were crap, we would not have computers today as everything once upon a time used to be command line.

Kids today really need a good lesson on Command Line etiquette. Those of use that had DOS before Windows are much better off now then those who just jumped in with Windows.
