We have carpenter bees in our shed. Every time I go near, I get buzzed by the guards. Fortunately, the guards are all males, and male carpenter bees can't sting; but their superficial resemblance to bumble bees is enough to keep most people and animals far away.
We have them here, too! They love to drill holes in Ryleigh's playset because the redwood we used to build some of the structure is so soft. Unfortunately, the guard bees scare Ryleigh and no matter how many times we try to tell her that they won't hurt her, she still runs away screaming. We've been considering taking the whole thing down since she won't play on it because of the bees.
