I made the mistake of squishing a dead bee between my fingers when I was a kid. The funny thing is that I used to catch them in my hand all the time and was never stung once.

We have carpenter bees in our shed. Every time I go near, I get buzzed by the guards. Fortunately, the guards are all males, and male carpenter bees can't sting; but their superficial resemblance to bumble bees is enough to keep most people and animals far away.
