I would just about bet that's the problem. Wonder if Calibre can be made to strip those type characters out of the filenames it creates?

Try renaming that file with just Book Name#Author and see if it opens fine.

If I had to guess, I'd say 70% of the lockups people see on these forums are badly formatted filenames/files rather than the reader actually having an issue(I'd suspect a higher percentage, but I'm lowballing here, lol)..
