When growing up, our family had a cabin on the Iowa River that we went to every weekend. Many of my best memories of childhood are mixed in with that place. We spent most of our days out in the surrounding woods and on the river, fishing.
Last fall, when my family gathered at that area to drop my Dad's ashes in the river, my brother and I were just standing around at one point. I made the comment that it seemed that there were a lot more birds, even a bald eagle flying around, than I remembered. His comment back was that after the ban of DDT, there were lots more birds everywhere.
