I hate that. And, for me, getting up and reading only postpones when I will return to sleep and so I end up losing some. My recent approach which has worked pretty well is to immediately try to stop thinking or doing anything and instead try to lull myself back to sleep by remembering and concentrating on the sensations of the most relaxing time in my life. Lately, I've been remembering sleeping in late one Saturday morning with my wife in Colorado when there were no kids, no noises from neighbours, and large, peaceful snowflakes were falling outside on the grasses in a nearby marsh. Quiet bliss purges the thoughts from my racing mind and....[yawn].........
