Yeah, if he is talking about reversal of the magnetic pole that has happened in the past and will probably happen again; and when it does happened it will be relatively rapid. This is just due to changes in the currents of molten magnetic fluid in the Earth's core.

The actual axis of rotation of the Earth flipping over? Has never happened and never will. Except in this one SF book I read were the Earth was destroyed by aliens having the technology to, well not completely flip the Earth, but to change the axis of rotation by 90 degrees.
