Yeah, the 2nd generation 8 gig itouch was around 229 on amazon and the 3rd generation is now at 179. That is about a 25 percent drop. Now when a NEW device comes out , 360, PS3, Wii, it stays high for first year then depending on competition it drops and by 3 or 4th year drops by 50 percent or more.
This device would be a lot like the first generation IPHONE and it dropped fast after a month or so. So I'm saying that "if the 16 gig IPAD was 299 I would pick it up, at 399 , given the way it is today NO. If it was more OPEN and had some of the features others were talking about , yeah, I would pick it up for 399 for the 16 gig version. But the stock 16 gig first gen , no more than 299 for me.
p.s Once it's sold on Amazon and there are 2,000 or 3,000 reviews and 80-90 percent of the people are raving about it and saying how they can do this and that and the other thing. Well, the price goes up for me. I only know a few people that own it, Scott being one of those people and he loves his. I know I buy other stuff on amazon that tons of people like, and generally feel good about purchase.
p.s.s. One other thing, this is NEW device and over the next year I'm sure Apple will be making very slight changes in hardware tweaking it , maybe making the wifi stronger and making the components better. I remember the xbox 360 and the problems it had. So it could be something that apple does quietly and silently until they iron out any hardware bugs, software bugs they can work on NO problems, out in the OPEN.
