I rarely read DTBs anymore, but back when I did post-its were by far my favorite type of bookmark. The size is great and they don't fall out. We seem to have a never-ending supply around the house, so when the one I was using would start to lose its stickiness, I would just toss it and get a new one.

As far as dog-ears and spine cracking go, I never dog-ear pages, but on occasion will crack a spine. My mom is 83 years old with arthritis in her hands, and if a book is printed too close to the spine she's just not physically capable of holding the book open to read it unless the spine is cracked. This is one of the reasons she doesn't buy new books though, only used (the other reason is she can't see paying $7-10 for a book if I can find it for her used for $4 or less)!
