With the conversion tools we have available, it's very easy to get content onto the reader and then later on take that same content and move it to a different device if so desired. Besides, to be totally honest, there is no standard just yet. MobiPocket seems to be closer to a standard though. But with Digital Editions coming out for Linux sometime next year that could change things. So for now, things are still in flux. So any reader you buy now won't be standard. I'm glad you didn't listen to your BF
