I used to cut old birthday and Christmas cards into bookmarks, trying to keep the pattern logical (never cut a pic of a cat in half - my cards usually have moggies on them!). These would end up various sizes for different types of book.

I hated losing my page, and wouldn't dog-ear, even though most of my pbooks are from car-boot sales, jumble sales or charity shops.
