Mathematics isn't a problem limited to the PRS-600 but indeed any device that uses EPUB format files (or LRF format for that matter).
Your font problems sound like the fonts required aren't embedded in the document. They need to be embedded.
With PDFs, presumably Adobe Acrobat can be used to embed the required fonts.
