I haven't downloaded any of the Balzacs in the Sony Connect Classics. Has anyone else? I'd like to know what they look like.

The versions on PG are mostly .txt files. This means that all the accents are missing when any French terms are used. If Sony have just done a mechanical conversion then the unaccented result is likely to be disappointing. Can anyone say whether they have accents or not?

I am planning to do more French classics in translation but this will be a slow-ish process because it is time-consuming to restore the missing accents.

I have got one tip - open a second file in Word. Set the language as French. Then copy unaccented words and phrases to this file. The autocorrect will usually (but not invariably) add the missing circumflexes, cedillas etc, which you can then paste back into your working file.
