I'm pretty sure of my before figures because I used to watch how much I was spending per book with each purchase, and if it was too high, I'd reconsider my purchases, but my before figure and someone else's can certainly vary due to an individual's tendency to buy hardback priced ebooks, Buywise membership, and Micropay sales, so that's not a hard and fast number for everyone. I tried to make the best use of the discounts available to me to get the most bang for my buck. As for the after prices, I'm not sure what Fictionwise's prices are going to be like if/when they recover from this fiasco. The $5-7 figure is a guess based on what the prices are like at the Kindle store and at B&N.com. Without some kind of discount program like the Buywise club and/or the Micropay accounts, there's nothing to help lower your cost per book from what's mandated by the publishers. I am SO going to miss Micropay - that's probably the number one feature that has kept me so loyal to Fictionwise over the past 6 years.

I don't necessarily mind paying $12.99 for a book if it's only out in hardback now and I absolutely can't wait for it, but what pisses me off beyond belief is when an ebook is selling for $14.00 when it's available in paperback for $7.99. (And that's a specific example based on a handful of books from my old wishlist.) I'll go so far as to say I can't stand hard copy books of any kind anymore - hardback, trade paper, mass market, they all take up waaaay too much space. Once I went electronic, there was no going back!
