Another more easy way is to use the program Acronis True Image and regularly take snapshot images of your hard-drive. This saves a lot of time on the restore process and you will get a system that looks exactly as the previous one. I use it all the time and couldn't be happier since it saves me a lot of time otherwise spent on configuration.
Ah, yes, partitioning, that's yet another thing to do. Do you know any good (cheap ?) partitioning software?
