Wow, where did THAT come from? I wasn't aware of complaining... just making an observation of what I experienced and what I had decided to about it (nothing) since there are a bazillion things I would rather be doing. I tried out Greenapple's suggestion and Nuance does indeed remove the headers and footers with the crop tool (thanks, green!)

But I guess these particular PDFs are not formatted very well to start with as I still have broken lines and strange spaces. Spent a half hour cleaning up the resulting file, but guess what? A good learning experience, but I'd rather be reading another book that's already nicely formatted.
