Maybe it's a different cultures thing. In the UK 'moron' and 'asshole' are pretty much synonymous - I react to both the same way when they are used to describe me.
Also, with the trial thing - opinions differ, many people think it was a fair trial and justice was meted out. Of course every legal system results in miscarriages of justice from time to time, but a lot of the criticism seemed to be aimed at the country and its people, rather than the specifics of the trial itself.
I did read your sig before it was redacted, but can't remember the actual wording (sorry), however I do remember thinking I wouldn't have been happy if it had been about the UK (it was calling for a boycott of products iirc).
