What's interesting in this discussion imo is the notion of double standards. That's really where all the division is.
One party seems to think that an american life is inherently much more valuable than other lives, thus endorsing pre-emptive strikes, torture, killing numerous innocents to obtain a goal whatever that is, as long as it is in US interests and so forth.
The other party view all life as equal.
I'd like to hear, why and how American lives are more important than Mexican, Venezuelan, German, Iranian...
