My boyfriend is a fellow technophile and occasional Sony fanboy, so he's certainly okay with the Reader, at least in theory (it hasn't arrived yet). However, he did urge me to wait until there was a standard format. But he didn't wait until there was a standard for high-definition DVDs, so his argument didn't hold much water.
He's read books online, but I think it will be a while until he converts. But we'll see; maybe when my arrives he'll keep stealing it from me.
