I'd reccomend "calibrating" the battery. Fully charge and drain it about 3 times, so that you can get the max usage out of the batter.
First Step: Update Firmware.
Second (At least for me): Request and Download Shell hack.
Third: Install Enhanced iPDF and FBReader. Full screen is really necessary for PDF's not formatted for the iLiad. FBReader gives you access to just about any other format you'd want.

Sorry to ask stupid questions, but where do I download "FBReader" from and how do I install it? From a PC, or directly onto the Iliad from the Internet?
I've successfully connected to the iDS and it tells me that I have the latest version of the firmware (2.10). I've also successfully converted one of my books to Mobipocket, transferred it to the Iliad, and that works fine, too, although it seems to lose some of the formatting compared with the Sony version.
