It's not the same screen technology. The iPad uses an "IPS" screen, like those gorgeous Mac displays.

The key to comfort, though -- is turning the brightness down to match the room lighting and increase font size. Obviously, you can use a much larger font on the iPad. It didn't take long for me to prefer the iPad's large size over my iPhone.

I've gone back to the iPhone for book reading, though, because I like the small light size.
