Animals are routinely skinned alive (much more often than people realize) for their hides to make leather, so that's why it can be a sensitive issue to many. Actually, I *do* have a good idea of what goes into making the products I use. A: I'm a hunter and fisher. B: I've worked leather and have worked at slaughtering. C: I've worked in product manufacturing. If anyone thinks that the occasional case of animal cruelty is bad (and while numerically the amounts of animals live-skinned is high, the percentage is infinitismally small - although that in *no way* excuses live-skinning - I prefer and seek out any leather products I use be from dead-skinned animals) D: Each and every one of those "no animals harmed" products is far worse for the planet in both the short and long run - which is why I fully support every private-sector effort to move manufacturing industry into space; mining and manufacturing done in orbit or in the asteroids - no matter how expensive - is far less harmful to this home of ours.
