Actually, I liked Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, and I don’t think his acting is what ruined the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still. What ruined it for me were the changes the writers made to Klaatu’s personality.

Neither movie was like the book on which they were based. If you’re interested in reading the original (if you haven’t already done so), you can get it free from these sites or 99 cents from Amazon. The book has a twist at the end that isn’t in the movies.
