If you're referring to simple spelling or grammatical errors, then yes, I agree, but a good copy editor does a heck of a lot more than that. They will often advise that parts of the book are re-written, or are entirely removed. That's generally not not something that an author is able to do themselves. The overwhelming majority of books require professional editing to get them into a state fit to be published. That's just the way it is, and is not meant as a criticism of anyone's writing abilities.
