You get opposites in any country. It all depends on which side of power you are.

here, if you get sick, you can stay home for up to three days after calling work to say you'll be out. if you need more than that, you get a note from a doctor who puts you on "sick leave" for a specific number of days. for the first few (i can't remember how many exactly) your salary is covered by your company ; if you're out sick for a long time, the social security takes over payment. there's no defined number of days per year you're allowed to be sick, and you don't lose or gain anything depending on whether or not you take or don't take them, however best not get caught if you are on doctor-prescribed (long term) sick-leave but not actually sick. of course, we also have 5 weeks of holidays here per year for everyone after their first year, and if your company is still on a 39-hour work week you can get "time credit" for the extra half-day per week which you can accumulate and take when you want (legal work week was reduced to 35 hours a few years ago, this is a ruse to make the transition less "traumatic"

for employers), which makes an extra 2.5 days or so per month i believe.

Subsequent life-review occurred. Our relationship (and our acknowledgement to ourselves, each other, and eventually anyone else, of our sexuality) was the result.
It's all a rich tapestry.
