I always have recommended iLaid as THE unit for PDFs. In the meantime, there are similar solutions, but still no better ones in my opinion.
iRex 800 may be equal after the firmware update, we have to see. BeBook Neo/Onyx Boox is even as well, but has a (significantly) smaller screen.
Que and Skiff may be similar, we'll have to see.
And of course you still can go for iRex 1000S.
