200-300 what? Pounds? Euros? Turkish lira? Please remember that this is a world-wide forum!

I'm currently looking at the PRS600 and Kindle 2, but I'm not confident how well they'll handle PDFs.
No 6" device will display PDF formatted for an A4 page terribly well. PDF was not designed to be an eBook format, but to be a digital representation of a fixed-size printed page. It does that job very well; it is a very poor choice for an eBook format, unless formatted specifically for the screen size of the device it's being read on.

The Kindle 2 has extremely poor PDF support. The Sony PRS-600 does a somewhat better job, but I'd suggest that you look at the BeBook Neo / Onyx Boox 60 (the same device).

I'm also wondering if the PDFs convert well to Mobi or whatever.
Any PDF will typically need moderate to extensive hand editing after conversion.
