The Canadian Encyclopedia (

http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/...Parker-Baronet) both agree Sir Gilbert was born on 23 Nov 1862 so I think you can consider this fact properly cited.
He left Canada in 1885 for Australia, was knighted in England in 1902, spent time in California working on a film of one of his novels (where he suffered in a car crash), and died in London, his real home for many years. Although he wrote about Canada a good deal, he doesn't seem to have lived here much.
