Dear Dave:

Part of the problem is that terrorism worries everybody! A Sony battery did explode once in a post office. Regulations on batteries are as different as night and day between one country and the next country contiguous. It is a nightmare to ship batteries internationally.

Initially, the first two shipments of EZ Reader Basic from China came with the battery loose in the box. We asked why. China said they could NOT ship with the battery installed. They have since allowed the factory to ship with the battery in the device... but this is how wacko regulations get.

I hate it and you hate it. But... we often recommend for European residents, buy the spare battery from BeBook. It is the same battery and will work just fine.

But, shipping batteries with insurance and regulations is very expensive.
