Has anyone mentioned Customer Service? Amazon has amazing CS. You can usually talk to a person who can actually help you with your problem. After I'd owned my original Kindle 1 for several months the screen stopped working. I called up Amazon and after a couple of troubleshooting steps Amazon sent me overnight a new Kindle with prepaid return shipping and all I had to do was pack the broken one in the box and send it back.

The very few times I've needed to contact Amazon about my Kindle I've always had great results. What I've learned is that good CS is very important and should be considered when making a purchase.
