Well, why wouldn't they do a bookstore? How much trouble do you think it is to do a bookstore better than say, Sony or even Amazon? Not very, I'd guess - especially if you're Apple and have total control of the device and the software.

And why wouldn't they want to secure content for their device? Why wouldn't they leverage publishers' discontent with the Amazon situation to their advantage? But none of this is driven from a desire to be 'in' the ebook business - this is all about driving hardware sales by making the device more appealing, more indispensable, to as many people as possible.

It's basic business, that's all.
