Well, one of the first test of the European heavy rocket Ariane 5 failed spectacularly. It was found later that they had copied the program that monitored acceleration from its predecessor Ariane 4. Unfortunately the acceleration of Ariane 5 was so much more powerful that it required one digit more in the counter... when the acceleration reached the maximum number the counter could hold, it went back to zero, and the rocket became unmanageable.
So you see, even with the metric system you can blow up rockets.
