Hmm... the US Govt isn't known for running stuff efficiently. Look at medicare and medicade. Rather than a public option I would rather see some type of tax credit for heath costs somehow scaled based on your income. Also, deregulation a bit so insurance companies can go intersate which will bring more competition and lower prices.

I mean, the current deduction for medical expenses now only kicks in for expenses that exceed 35% of your income. I mean, who can afford to spend 35% of their income on medical expenses?

I really think more important than heath care issues are tax reform. I am a staunch supported of the fair tax... but even a simple flat income tax that could eliminate all the record keeping and the expense of the IRS would be better than the clusterfrack we have now. Everyone suffers to pay for stuff in a bad economy... health care isn't the only thing a lot of people can't afford.
