You're the only person who thinks it's not usable. If you don't like how the output looks you're more then welcome to submit patches to change the behaviour. Unless you want to do the work I'm not going to support and maintian multiple formattings for PML.

I'll add that about half of the output formats don't conform to this standard. Basically anything that does visual formatting based on whitespace.
