Sort of... but you don't access stores with it. So, if you are buying from the Sony store you are going to need to get the Sony software working.

Well, it doesn't need to be open, but it needs to be installed. The question I would ask you is when you have ADE open and plug in your reader does it appear in ADE's devices list?

Yes... it have the drives to ADE can talk to the Sony reader.

Have you every created an Adobe Id? If not, you might have an issue because the Sony software created an Adobe ID for you. Perhaps it is your Sony username/id... you could try that to "authorize" ADE.
