I'm wondering if there is a reason to send it in for the new, new firmware. There was an obvious hardware upgrade for ePUB, but that should be a one-time deal. Any new update should be a flash.

It could be that they were debugging, and needed a unit in house. That would explain severe lag -- how do you test to see how long it lasts without sitting on the Reader for a long time?

How did you get in touch with the Laredo tech? Be nice to know if they're planning to post it. I was planning on calling Sony and requesting a replacement Reader due to the battery issue, but I would far rather get my 500 back to a decent battery life!
