yes, he's one of those people i think i would have loved to meet (and tati as well). they called him "le fou chantant" (the singing madman) which is a good sign if you ask me.
i don't know whether he only sang his own songs but i wouldn't be surprised.

i've got a dvd around here somewhere about gondry with all his music videos, television spots, and a bunch of short films he did for his family, as well as lots of interviews. the man is absolutely brilliant. he explained the concept behind each video and how he thought of it and then how he made it ; it's inspiring stuff.
i came this close >< to knowing him : one of the short films in that dvd is a short film he made for his brother's birthday, in which all his brother's friends play parts. as i was watching it i thought to myself "wow, it's unbelievable how much that guy looks like my friend milou" (a musician friend i used to be pretty close to but whom i had lost sight of a while before). at the end of the film all the participants were shown with their names and lo and behold, the name with the guy who looked just like my friend milou was in fact émile ! who knows, if i hadn't lost sight of milou a few years ago, i might be having dinner with michel gondry... (damned !)
