I'll check the code regarding the series stuff. I think I treated it as an attribute.
I checked in few of the epub series books I have and they all had the series info like this-
<meta name="calibre:series_index" content="2"/>
<meta name="calibre:series" content="series name"/>
Authors menu is a good idea. I'll add it to the list for next build.
