Well, it looks like there is no great solution at this point. I tried another clip and it was worse than the Mighty Bright. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm just super fussy, I suppose.
However, I've grown fond of the reader while playing with it all day, so I'll hold on and wait for a better lighting solution to appear.
