Windows supports touch screen, and I think linux does too although I haven't tried it before. Apple could take OS X and add touch capabilities. There would have to be tweaks and possibly design changes, but at its base it could still be OS X. Imagine: photoshop on ipad... final cut pro... all the great OS X compatible software instead of app store apps.

Maybe the ipad wasn't powerful enough for a regular OS (or it was powerful enough but the battery couldn't keep up).
