I was on a plane to Canada last year and the stewardess was doing her pre-landing check. She noticed me looking at an electronic device and was about to tell me to switch it off when she stopped and said "Oh is that one of those book things? Wow!". I smiled and answered an affirmative, and she went on without telling me to turn it off.
Guess it was ok then!
