I used to have a 7 ft. common boa (not a red-tail). A salesman came to visit one day. I told him I had a python, and he asked to see it. I asked him if he was afraid of snakes and he said no, so I told him to follow me. We sent to the garage, in which I had built a separate room for Baby (my python). The room was approximately 7 ft. x 12 ft. with hardware wire on all the windows and a deadbolt on the door. I unlocked the door and we went in. Then he saw Frank (the boa) climbing on a tree limb I had secured for that purpose. He turned white as a sheet and backed out saying, “I am afraid of snakes!” He then told me he wasn’t expecting the snake to be so big. I then explained to him that Frank wasn’t the python, and with him standing safely outside the room and looking into one of the windows, I lifted the washing machine shipping box under which Baby—all seventeen feet of her—was hiding. I thought the poor fellow was going to pass out!

I no longer keep snakes. As a rule, they make pretty boring pets. Baby was the exception to that rule, but that’s a story for another day.

BTW, Kevin. Love your avatar. You're of of the best-looking men I've ever seen!
