Softrooting does have lots of advantages (covers for sideloaded books, webbrowser, RSS-feeds, ...). And you easily can revert without any problems, if you decide so. Even exchanging the SIM already works nicely. I can't purchase on nook. But I can browse the B&N webstore while on the train, add books to my wishlist and later on purchase those books on PC via VPN.
being able to browse b&N bookstore when u're out n about is pretty useful for me coz i'm out most days, as for sideloaded books, have yet to buy anything outside of B&N (i might try google when they're up coz they have more variety i heard), and the for web browser, i rather use my lappy for it. so i guess tat function alone is why i would softroot my nook.
