because I teach skiing part time when I'm not busted up. many ski lift rides are long and after the first 25 times or so, looking at the same tree is boring. there are also frequent stops due to falls and mechanical issues. I can whip my kindle out and read right until the point that I need to raise my ski tips to disembark. I flop it closed, hold it until I get to the spot where I tighten my boots, adjust my poles and clothing and secure my kindle then I'm off with tons of formerly wasted time having become recovered reading time!

MOST people don't come in here with such a cup on their shoulder demanding that
WE justify their actions; ie keeping or discarding a reading device.
MOST people come in here all excited and wriggling like puppies wanting to learn everything they can about the new marvel they are holding.
